CNC PET
(Polyethylene terephthalate) PROCESSING

Known as PET, PETE, PETP or PET-P, Polyethylene Terephthalate is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic based on polyethylene terephthalate. Its high humidity resistance makes this the most suitable material for producing precise elements that require dimensional stability.

Due to its low friction coefficient and outstanding wear resistance, it is the perfect material for components that need to be stressed or require electrical insulation.

Despite its low resistance to hot water, Polyethylene Terephthalate has a better resistance to acids compared to materials like Nylon or Acetal. PET can work at continuous operating temperatures of around 100°C and its melting point is almost 70°C higher than acetal. It retains significantly more than its original strength up to 85°C more than Nylon or Acetal.

PET is in compliance with FDA regulation 21 CFR 177.1630 for contact with food as well as with the Directive 2002/72 / EC of the European Commission.

PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) PROPERTIES

  • High mechanical resistance, rigidity and hardness
  • Lower and constant friction coefficient
  • Good wear resistance (comparable and even better than polyamides)
  • Great dimensional stability (better than acetal resin)
  • Better resistance to hydrochloric acid compared to polyamides and acetal resin
  • Good electrical insulation properties
  • Physiologically inert (suitable for food contact)
  • Defects: very hard material and low impact resistance

PET (Polyethylene Terephtalate) fields of application

PET is widely used in different industrial sectors and its dimensional stability makes it unrivaled for precision parts that require tight tolerances, even in wet or heat-prone environments.

PET is commonly used for the production of bushes and bearings, gears, food valves, insulators, electrical insulators, screw conveyors, cams, slide guides, supports and connectors.
