CNC POM (Polyoxymethylene) Acetal Resin PROCESSING

Also known as acetal resin or polyformaldehyde, Polyoxymethylene (POM) is an extremely crystalline thermoplastic with outstanding mechanical features including strength, rigidity and sliding property.

Furthermore, it is highly water repellant (low hydrophilic power) and retains its size and physical properties even in changing environments.

POM (Polyoxymethylene) PROPERTIES

  • High chemical resistances
  • Easy to use both for machine tools and in welding
  • Good temperature resistance

Acetal resin or polyformaldehyde has outstanding mechanical properties including high strength, rigidity and hardness. Its low friction coefficient makes it suitable for applications that require reliable and frictionless mechanical performance.

  • Due to its good impact resistance it is a reliable choice for applications that require low-temperature strength.

Polyoxymethylene (POM) is a humidity-resistant material with outstanding machining ability.

  • It has low humidity absorption (saturation 0,8%) and provides outstanding machining ability with machine tool. Thanks to its properties, POM can be used instead of non – ferrous material with excellent results. It is especially used with automatic machines.
  • Lower tendency to deformation over time than Polyamides.
  • High dimensional stability and hydrolysis resistance (up to 140°).

POM (Polyoxymethylene) fields of application

The acetal resin id widely used in different industrial sectors and applications including guiding and sliding components, clamps, parts of pumps, fan rotors, bearings seats, toothed gears, hinges, dimensionally stable precision parts, electrical insulators, negative or sliding components.

Mechanical sector

Among technoplastic materials, POM is the most widely used to produce precision mechanical parts.

Food sector

In accordance with current regulations (FDA, EU FCS, NSF-51), POM is physiologically inert and suitable for food contact.

Electrical sector

POM is a non - hygroscopic material so it is commonly used for electrical uses as an insulator.

Chemical sector

High chemical resistance to weak acids, alkalis, organic solvents, benzene, oil and alcohol.

Thermal sector

POM is suitable for mechanical parts that continuously work at temperatures between 60 and 80°C.

Automotive sector

Polyoxymethylene is used in carburetors and tanks that are designed to be in contact with either naphtha or gasoline.
